Vivian Cheruiyot Has Withdrawn From the Berlin Marathon With a Tendon InjuryBy Adam Kopet Vivian Cheruiyot will not be racing the Berlin Marathon as had been previously reported. Her name was missing the Berlin Marathon media guide that was released Thursday. Xinhua reports Cheruiyot has withdrawn from the race due to a tendon injury. Cheruiyot has a personal best of 2:18:31 from winning the 2018 London Marathon. She has run five marathons in her career. Cheruiyot has won four Olympic medals and five IAAF World Outdoor Championships medals, including gold in the 5,000 meters at the 2016 Olympics. With Cheruiyot's absence from the race, fellow Kenyan Gladys Cherono becomes an even stronger favorite in the race. She is the two-time defending champion in Berlin and has won the race three times. |
