Dennis Kimetto Plans World Record Marathon Run in 2018Published by
Kimetto Wants to Break His Own World Record at 2018 BMW Berlin MarathonBy Adam Kopet Dennis Kimetto is the world record holder in the marathon and he is running Oct. 8 at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. However, according to Bernard Rotich of the Daily Nation, Kimetto is already eying the 2018 BMW Berlin Marathon to break his own record. Kimetto, 36, ran the world record 2:02:57 at the 2014 Berlin Marathon. He is the only athlete to have run under 2:03 in a record-eligible race. Since then, Kimetto has been sidelined by injury. Last year, his best marathon time was 2:11:44 at the Virgin Money London Marathon. Kimetto hopes to race well in Chicago. He is reportedly healthy and ready to run again at an elite level. However, Chicago does not employ pacesetters in the race, making the chance to run near the world record slim. With that in mind, Kimetto is looking forward to Berlin next year. The Berlin Marathon has become the top marathon to break world records. Of course, Kimetto will likely face off against Eliud Kipchoge, who is on a quest to break the world record himself.
