Kimetto Keen to Set Work Marathon Record in Berlin

Published by AllAfrica on June 27, 2014

Chicago Marathon champion Dennis Kimetto is eying a new world marathon record during September's Berlin Marathon in Germany.

Kimetto, who lowered the Chicago Marathon course record to 2:03.45 last year is only 22 seconds short of Wilson Kipsang world record of 2:03.23. Kimetto placed third behind pace setter Geoffrey Rono and Wilson Kipsang last weekend at Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon in Czech Republic.

Kimetto, who trains at Kapng'etuny in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, is already on the road in preparation for his record attempt in Berlin. He said he has no intention of competing in any other race apart from his bid for the record in the Germany city. "My race in the Czech Republic last weekend was part of my build up for Berlin race.

The competition was very encouraging and I now know which areas to fine tune in a bid to hit my target," he noted. He said he wants to run a 2:03 flat. "Everything is possible and I know with determination I will return with the record from Berlin," he said.
